If you are using the multiple user version of Time Clock MTS along with the MS Access database option then you need to share the database correctly to allow multiple people to use it. We can’t give explicit instructions on how to do this because it depends on the network operating system that you are using.

However, on a general level, for the folder in which the Time Clock MTS database is in you’ll need to provide full READ/WRITE/EXECUTE/DELETE permissions to every user/PC that is running Time Clock MTS connected to that database. If you do this correctly then PC’s running the Time Clock MTS client or admin program will be able to connect to the database with no problems. If this is not done correctly then you’ll see one of two things:

1. You’ll immediately get an Error 52 File access error when trying to connect to the database.
2. Or Time Clock MTS will take you through the database connection routine and appear to connect to the database with no problems. However, when you run the software again it will ask you to connect to the database again and take you through the connection routine. It will keep doing this in an endless loop.

If either of these two things happen then you’ve not setup your file permissions properly. Go back and check things again and try again!

As always if none of this helps feel free to email me at support@timeclockmts.com

Cheers,

Mark

Hi Mark,

I read about the connection problems you posted here.

But I am still experiencing a problem with just one of the computers at my office. All other computers installed fine following all the steps. This computer allowed me to install the Client software and then walked me through the Database Network Wizard. I was able to locate the database file on the network and I selected it fine without any incident. Only when I go and open the Client program to run it, it gives me the below message.

"ERROR: Access violation at 0x77FCAD0F (tried to write to 0x00030FEC), program terminated."

I have given all the correct permissions, I don't know what else to try.

Would appreciate any info you can provide.

Thanks

Hi There,

This is a (more) serious problem than just one with file permissions. Can I suggest you turn off your AV and firewall software and try re-running the software and see if that helps?

Since the connection to the database is lost each time we shut down the computer, is there a way to automatically reconnect to the database when Time clock MTS is opened after turning on the computer? Can we get Time Clock to start up automatically when we start up our computers? Currently, we have to go through the connection wizard each time.

We just purchased a license for 1 administrator computer (mine) and 2 clients (3 total computers). Friday, I downloaded the software onto my machine, and the client software on 2 machines. The MS Access database resides on our server. Our IT guy helped me get it setup, and we gave full permissions, etc. I've setup 2 employees and the software appears to be collecting the time data correctly.

Today, on 2 of the 3 computers (mine plus one of the clients), when starting up the program, we both received the same error message titled "License Conditions Exceeded" that said that the license connection record had been deleted from the Time Clock database and that we needed to close down the software and restart. We closed the software and opened it again, and it appeared to work fine. Can you tell me what that error message was about?

I realized I wasn't clear in the post I just submitted - we purchased the license Thursday last week.

I also forgot to say: thanks for any help you can give me!

Hi,

Welcome to the forums. Firstly, shut down the client software on both PC's and then log into the admin software as the administrator. Go to the Tools->Manage Connections screen and clear any of the network connections that are still hanging about. Then start the client software up and register it using your license details. Do this on the other machine too. This should clear everything up.

Hi Mark --

We have not had the error message about "license conditions exceeded" come up again, even though I did not have a chance to do your suggestion until today. When I tried your suggestion, and brought up the client software again, it did not ask for registration info, it appeared to be already correctly registered to our company.

What is still happening is that the clients and administrator versions all work fine as long as we don't turn off our computers. We can close and open the software with no problem and no loss of connection to the database as long as the computers stay on.

However, when we shut down the computers, after starting them up again, when we open the software (both on my computer and the client computers) it tells us we are not connected to the database, and we have to go through the connection wizard.

My question is: is this is how the program is supposed to function? Is the connection to the database supposed to be lost each time the computer is shut down?

Thanks for your help, -- Diane

Hi Diane,

Have you mapped a network drive to the folder that contains the database? Or are you just navigating to the computer in the My Network folder when you re-connect to it? Can I suggest the map network drive function. The other thing to realize is that the software cannot connect to the database when the computer the database is on is turned off.
