Getting Time Clock MTS working with an SQL Server database is a pretty simple task. Just follow the instructions below and you'll be up and running in no time.

1. Create Your SQL Server Database

The first step is to create your SQL Server database using the Time Clock MTS Access database as a template. You must have installed the admin version of Time Clock MTS first, and can use your existing populated timeclock.mdb file as a template.

1. The best method of creating the SQL Server database is to use the built in database upsizing wizard within MS Access. You'll need to do this in Access 2000 or better and the wizard can usually be found on the Tools->Database Utilities->Upsizing Wizard menu within MS Access.
2. Before upsizing make sure to install Time Clock MTS on one computer and run it at least once on the default database that ships with the software. This will update the database with all the latest fields and tables. If you have any existing data in your MS Access database this will be exported to the SQL Server database during this process.
3. When you're ready to upsize open the timeclock.mdb database (found in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Time Clock MTS\Database unless you've moved it) in MS Access and run the database upsizing wizard. Choose to Create a New Database and click Next.
4. On the next screen enter your SQL Server details here such as your server name, UID, password and the name of the database you want to store your information in. Note this information down and when you're happy click next.
5. On the next screen you want to choose to export ALL tables to SQL Server. Click Next when you're done.
6. On the next screen you'll be given the option to export table attributes to SQL Server. Uncheck the Table Relationships checkbox. Leave all the other things in their default state and then click Next.
7. On the next screen you'll be given the opportunity to make application changes, just leave all the default options and click next.
8. On the next screen you'll be told the the wizard is now ready to do the upsize, just click Finish and let it do its work.

Possible Problems
If you have problems with Access crashing while doing the upsize make sure you've updated to the latest service release for the version of Access you are running.

2. Setting Up the Time Clock MTS Admin program to Work with SQL Server
1. If you're running the 30 day trial of Time Clock MTS you'll be able to use SQL Server as a backend. If you've purchased Time Clock MTS you'll only be able to use it if you checked the 'Enable SQL Server' box on the order form and paid the license fee.
2. Start up the main Time Clock MTS program, login as the administrator and go to the Tools->Options menu.
3. Go to the System Options and here you can configure the SQL Server details. Select the SQL Server database type option and enter all the appropriate database details into the text boxes. When you're done click the 'Test Connection' button to make sure a connection can be made to database.
4. Click OK to save the changes.

Possible Problems
1.If the SQL/MSDE Backend option is disabled then you're a licensed user but haven't purchased Enhanced Database support or your trial has expired.

2.If you encounter a hard crash or access violation the first time you run Time Clock MTS after configuring the SQL Server connection then you should install the most recent version of MDAC from Microsoft, which can be downloaded from here:
